Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash Under Investigation in Albemarle County

Albemarle County, VA – A fatal two-vehicle accident occurred late Saturday evening in Albemarle County, prompting an ongoing investigation by local authorities. The Albemarle County Police Department and Albemarle County Fire Rescue units responded to the crash site around 9:15 p.m. on October 14, 2023.

The incident took place on the 7400 block of Rockfish Gap Turnpike, near the intersection of Greenwood Road. Three people, including occupants from both vehicles involved, were transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

Tragically, one of the victims, 23-year-old Trevynn Lee Awkard of Greenwood, VA, succumbed to his injuries overnight. Further details regarding the conditions of the other individuals involved have not been released.

The Albemarle County Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. According to a statement from the department’s social media, “The crash remains under investigation by the Albemarle County Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team.”
