CAMBRIDGE, MD – A midday armed robbery incident occurred on September 29, 2023, around 12:36 p.m., prompting a response from the Cambridge Police Department (CPD). The incident took place near Boundary Ave and Race St.
Upon reaching the scene, officers found the victim on the line with emergency dispatch, who indicated that three male juveniles had fled the scene in the direction of Pine St via Boundary Ave. As officers pursued, they spotted the juveniles darting through backyards, eventually trying to emerge from a wooded area onto Pine St. However, upon spotting the officers, the trio retreated back into the woods.
Additional units from the CPD’s patrol, CID, and admin divisions joined the search, along with a K9 Unit from the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office (DSO). With a perimeter established, a K9 tracking attempt was launched. Eventually, the DSO K9 handler noticed the juveniles exiting the woods onto Pine St. Authorities managed to detain one of them – a 14-year-old male from Cambridge, MD. The victim identified this individual as one of the assailants. The young suspect was then transported to CPD for processing and was subsequently handed over to the Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) Lower Shore Detention Facility.
According to the victim’s statement, he was approached by the trio on multiple occasions, with the juveniles posing various questions. During their final approach, the juveniles encircled him, and one brandished a handgun, demanding his belongings. The gun was then passed to another member of the group. Their robbery attempt was thwarted when a neighbor stepped in, causing the juveniles to scatter from the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
