Littering Violation Leads to Gun Arrest in Syracuse

SYRACUSE, NY – On Saturday, September 30th, at about 8:10 P.M., Officers Blazey and Bush of the Syracuse Police encountered 18-year-old Kyaire Washington during a routine patrol in the Pioneer Homes area.

After observing Washington dispose of a piece of plastic garbage on public property in the 100 block of Radisson Court, violating local littering laws, the officers approached him.

Upon being informed of his arrest for littering, Washington was placed in custody, whereupon a subsequent search revealed a “ghost gun” – an unregistered firearm with no markings or serial numbers – equipped with an illegal extended magazine and laser in his waistband.

Additionally, officers found nine Oxycodone pills without a valid prescription and crack cocaine in Washington’s possession.

Washington faces charges including Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second and Third Degrees, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, various degrees of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and violation of Local Law for Littering and Dumping. He was transferred to the Onondaga County Justice Center following the charges.
