Early Morning Shooting in Petersburg Leaves One Dead

PETERSBURG, VA – An individual was fatally shot early Sunday morning in Petersburg, with the incident taking place near Ivy Lane at the Ivy Gates apartments.

The area saw a significant police presence, and officials advised residents to steer clear of North Boulevard and South Sycamore Street.

Both Sycamore lanes and North Boulevard, including Mt. Vernon at Sycamore, were closed. As of now, further details surrounding the shooting remain unavailable.

Not far from the scene, a vehicle had struck and toppled the Dough Boy World War I monument, a tribute from 1928 to local soldiers who perished in the war.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police.
