SILVER SPRING, MD – John Anthony Vigna, a former elementary school teacher previously convicted in 2017 for sexual abuse of students, has had his conviction overturned and was released on bond in July. Vigna, now 58, awaits a new trial.
Originally, Vigna was found guilty for offenses that occurred during his tenure at Cloverly Elementary School in Silver Spring. He is accused of inappropriately touching female students between August 2001 and February 2016. Vigna started his teaching career at the school in October 1991.
Since the overturning of the initial conviction, more victims have come forward. The Montgomery County Department of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division urges anyone with further information to contact them at 240-773-5050, as they suspect there may be additional victims.
The allegations and legal process are ongoing, and Vigna is currently awaiting his new trial.
