BROOKHAVEN, NY – Fannie Bowe, 54, faces charges for allegedly using a union-issued debit card to make unauthorized personal withdrawals and purchases totaling over $20,000.
Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced the arrest today, stating that Bowe had violated the trust of her colleagues in the educational community of the South Country Central School District. Bowe served as the treasurer of the Bellport Teachers Association Affiliates Union, a position she held since October 2020. She was also employed as a School Monitor for the same district.
The investigation revealed that between July 2021 and January 2023, Bowe misused her union debit card to make unauthorized purchases and ATM withdrawals. The unauthorized transactions consisted of $2,500 in purchases and $18,000 in ATM withdrawals. Bowe is also accused of submitting multiple false treasurer reports to the union’s executive board in an effort to hide her activities. The discrepancies came to light after union officials reviewed and questioned the submitted expense reports.
The Bellport Teachers Association Affiliates Union represents Teachers Assistants and School Aides in the South Country Central School District, with funding sourced from member dues.
Bowe was arraigned on September 15 before District Court Judge Bernard Cheng. She is charged with one count of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a Class D felony, and two counts of Falsifying Business Records in the First Degree, Class E felonies. If convicted, she faces between two and one third to seven years in prison.
