BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD – The Baltimore County Police Department will hold a promotion ceremony later this week to announce several groundbreaking promotions.
On Thursday, Captain Michael Cortes III will become the department’s first Hispanic Major. Cortes has been with the department for 31 years and was the first Hispanic officer to become Captain in 2016.
Also making history is Kerri-Ann Lawrence, who will become the first Jamaican-born Lab Director of the Forensic Services Section. Lawrence holds multiple Master’s degrees and served eight years in the U.S. Army and Maryland Army National Guard.
The promotion ceremony will take place at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Baltimore and will also feature the promotion of 12 women who are sworn or professional staff members.
The department emphasizes that these promotions reflect its commitment to a diverse workforce. The ceremony will consist of 40 sworn and eight professional staff members who bring decades of service, experience, and knowledge to their positions.
