EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – New Yorkers like to win, there’s no question about it, but for New York Giants fans, reliving the past and winning their fifth Superbowl this year is a long shot.

According to most gaming websites, the Giants are a longshot to win it all in 2023 as they get ready to kickoff their season against the Dallas Cowboys Sunday night.

Instead of looking ahead, it might be a good time for Giants fans to look back at some of the best moments in the organization’s recent history and Superbowl wins.

The Beginning: Super Bowl XXI (1986)

It was 1987, and the New York Giants faced the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXI. Led by Bill Parcells and MVP Phil Simms, the Giants clinched their first-ever Super Bowl victory with a 39-20 win over the Broncos. Simms set a Super Bowl record for completion rate, completing 22 of 25 passes.

The Second Act: Super Bowl XXV (1990)

In 1991, the Giants found themselves against the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXV. The Giants emerged victorious, albeit by the skin of their teeth, as Scott Norwood’s field goal attempt sailed wide right. The Giants won 20-19, marking their second championship in five years.

The Upset: Super Bowl XLII (2007)

Fast forward to 2008, and the Giants are up against the undefeated New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. Against all odds, Eli Manning and his team pulled off one of the greatest upsets in Super Bowl history. The “Helmet Catch” by David Tyree will forever remain etched in the annals of NFL lore. The Giants won 17-14.

The Rematch: Super Bowl XLVI (2011)

In 2012, a rematch took place between the Giants and the Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI. Once again, Eli Manning delivered in the clutch, leading his team to a 21-17 victory. Manning was named Super Bowl MVP for the second time in his career.

Legacy

The New York Giants have a rich history of Super Bowl victories, each contributing to the legacy of the franchise. Whether it’s the record-setting performance by Phil Simms or the underdog victory led by Eli Manning, the Giants have shown resilience, skill, and the ability to seize the moment when it counts the most. These victories not only add to the team’s storied history but also serve as a blueprint for future generations of players.
