NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE – A 45-year-old man was arrested at a New Castle Wawa for kidnapping, aggravated menacing, and additional crimes after chasing a woman with a knife and threatening several people.

On the evening of September 1, Delaware State Police responded to a call from a Wawa store at 7 East Commons Boulevard in New Castle. A man, identified as Murray Fleming, was reported to be chasing a 37-year-old woman around the store with a knife during an argument. Fleming struck the woman and threatened her with a knife.

A 32-year-old store employee intervened by advising the woman to lock herself in a store office. The woman complied, but Fleming then assaulted the employee and held a knife to her throat, demanding she unlock the door.

A 47-year-old patron subsequently entered the store and confronted Fleming, who then chased the patron with the knife. Police arrested Fleming without incident in the parking lot.

Fleming was charged with multiple counts, including first-degree kidnapping, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, and three counts of aggravated menacing. He was arraigned and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $67,000 cash bond.

The Delaware State Police continue to investigate the case and request that anyone with information contact Corporal Z. Sherwood at Troop 2 by calling 302-834-2620. Additional resources for victims and witnesses are available through the Delaware State Police Victim Services Unit at 1-800-VICTIM-1.
