Westminster, MD—Local resident Karl Petro clinched a $50,000 prize in the concluding draw of the Home Run Riches Contestant of the Game Second-Chance promotion, organized by the Maryland Lottery.
The promotional event took place from March until the end of August and involved selecting a Contestant of the Game for each Orioles match. Entrants participated by registering their $5 Fast Play Home Run Riches lottery tickets on the My Lottery Rewards platform. Each selected contestant received $500, with an additional $500 granted for every Orioles home run scored during the respective game. Two $50,000 giveaways were included in this year’s promotion to mark the Maryland Lottery’s 50th anniversary.
Upon learning of his win, Petro, who is 72 and works in modular construction, described his initial skepticism, which was only put to rest by his brother’s investigative efforts. A dedicated Orioles follower, Petro spoke highly of the team’s emerging players and noted the particular influence of player Ryan O’Hearn on his own life.
While Petro didn’t garner the Contestant of the Game title during the promotional period, his final $50,000 win proved to be a rewarding outcome. He plans to allocate the funds toward settling bills, making home upgrades, and partially financing a trip to Italy to explore his family heritage.
Despite the conclusion of the second-chance drawing, the Fast Play Home Run Riches game remains on offer at Maryland Lottery retailers. The game features a variety of prizes, starting from $5 and going up to $5,000, as well as a progressive jackpot commencing at $40,000.
