Suspect Charged in Deadly July Shooting

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MD – The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit has charged 20-year-old Yair Medina of Lanham in connection with the murder of 21-year-old Cameron Smith of Laurel.

On July 21, at around 1:10 am, officers responded to a shooting on the 13300 block of Edinburgh Lane. Smith was found outside with a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Information provided to the Prince George’s County Crime Solvers helped detectives with the investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that Medina shot Smith during a dispute. Both individuals were known to each other.

Medina is currently charged with first and second-degree murder, among other related charges. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
