EVESHAM TOWNSHIP, NJ – On Monday, Evesham Police Officers responded to a report of suspected animal cruelty on the 600 block of Main Street. At the residence, officers found both living and deceased dogs, as well as poor living conditions.

A juvenile was also found residing in the unhealthy environment and was taken into the care of the New Jersey Division of Child Protection & Permanency (DCP&P). Officers discovered 14 living dogs, numerous cats and rabbits, and more than 30 deceased dogs in the home.

Both homeowners, Rebecca Halbach, 35, and Brandon Leconey, 32, were arrested. Halbach is currently under medical evaluation, while Leconey is in Burlington County Jail.

Both face charges of endangering the welfare of a child and animal cruelty.

The Evesham Township Police Department is working with the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office to further investigate the scene. Additional animal cruelty charges will be filed upon determining the actual number of deceased dogs.
