Newark Man Arrested for Drug Dealing Following Traffic Stop

NEWARK, DE – On Friday, Delaware State Police arrested 53-year-old Anthony Whalen of Newark on drug dealing charges.

The arrest came after a traffic stop around 5:14 p.m. on Churchmans Road near Stanton Christiana Road. Patrol troopers had observed a black 2005 Nissan Maxima with an invalid registration.

Upon stopping the vehicle, troopers found drugs in plain sight on the passenger seat and took Whalen into custody without incident. The search yielded various types of drugs and paraphernalia, including approximately 61 ecstasy pills, over 4 ounces of marijuana, and 40 prescription pills. The vehicle also contained Naloxone packets and THC edibles.

Whalen faces multiple charges, including possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in Tier 3 and Tier 2 quantities, both felonies. He also faces two counts of possession of marijuana other than personal use quantity, among other charges.

Whalen was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was released on a $29,600 unsecured bond. Delaware State Police ask anyone with further information to contact them.
