WILMINGTON, DE – Delaware State Police have launched an investigation into a carjacking that transpired early this morning on South Market Street in Wilmington.
At around 3:18 a.m. on August 24th, troopers were called to the intersection of South Market Street and Rogers Road, where a 67-year-old New Castle man had been victimized. The man was assisting a lost motorist on the shoulder when an unknown SUV pulled alongside his unoccupied car.
An unidentified male emerged from the passenger side of the SUV, displaying a handgun in his waistband, and proceeded to steal the victim’s car. The suspect and the unidentified SUV then sped away toward I-495 southbound.
The suspect has been described as a black male dressed in dark clothing. Currently, no surveillance images or video have been made available to the public.
The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Robbery Unit is heading the ongoing investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective D. Armstrong at 302-365-8440 or through the various means provided by the Delaware State Police and Delaware Crime Stoppers.
