CHARLOTTE, N.C. – An officer-involved shooting on Sunday morning at 327 West Tremont Avenue has left one person dead, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) reported.
The department responded to a domestic disturbance call shortly before 8:00 a.m. Upon arriving, they heard gunshots from inside and forced their way into the apartment.
Inside, officers faced a male suspect. During an altercation, the suspect seized a knife and stabbed one of the officers in the neck. In defense, a backup officer shot the suspect, who was pronounced dead on site.
Both the injured officer and a female gunshot victim were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. As per standard procedure, the officer responsible for the shooting has been placed on administrative leave.
