NYPD Investigating Anti-Asian Hate Crime, Attack Inside Subway Station

NEW YORK CITY, NY – The New York City Police Department’s Hate Crime Task Force is investigating an assault that took place last Saturday. The incident occurred at approximately 12:05 pm in the mezzanine level at the Queensboro Plaza South subway station.

The victim, a 31-year-old male, was standing when an unidentified male approached him, started yelling anti-Asian statements, and struck the victim on the left side of his face with a closed fist.

Following the assault, the unidentified man fled the scene on foot. The victim suffered bruising and pain on the left side of his face but declined medical attention at the scene.

The individual is described as a male, between 30 and 40 years of age, 6’0″ tall, and weighing 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black jean jacket, black shorts, white socks, black and white sneakers, and a white hat.

The NYPD is actively seeking information about the man’s whereabouts. Citizens are urged to report any knowledge they may have of the incident or the individual in question.
