Virginia Beach Cop Narrowly Avoids Gunfire, Two Teens Detained

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – An officer from the Virginia Beach Police Department’s Fourth Precinct Crime Suppression Squad was shot at multiple times early Wednesday.

The officer was conducting plainclothes surveillance in the 1100 block of Craftsman Drive, related to a recent theft from an auto offense, around 2:15 A.M., when several suspects opened fire at his unmarked vehicle.

The officer returned fire and left the scene. The officer was not struck by gunfire but was treated for lacerations from broken glass.

Two suspects, both 16-year-old males, were detained following a search of the area. They now face multiple charges including tampering with an automobile and possession of a firearm by a juvenile. The VBPD Homicide Unit is conducting a criminal investigation into this incident.

The Virginia Beach Office of the Commonwealth Attorney will review the case upon completion to determine any violations of law.
