OCEAN COUNTY, NJ – The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office identified the victims of a murder-suicide in Little Egg Harbor Township.

On Friday, Kimberly Hoffman, 49, was found dead in her apartment, the victim of a gunshot wound. Carl Schulz, Jr., 52, her ex-husband, was identified as the assailant.

At approximately 5:10 a.m. on the day of the incident, Little Egg Harbor Township Police Department officers responded to a distress call from Whitemarsh Court.

They forced entry into the apartment and discovered Hoffman’s body along with a deceased dog with apparent gunshot wounds. Schulz, who was found conscious with a gunshot wound to his head, was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Detectives from both the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit and Little Egg Harbor Township Police Department are investigating the crime. Preliminary findings indicate Schulz killed Hoffman and the dog before turning the gun on himself.
