CLEVELAND, OH – Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley recently announced a guilty verdict against 41-year-old Leander Bissell for the fatal hit-and-run of 51-year-old Cleveland Firefighter Johnny Tetrick in November 2022.

The incident occurred on November 19, 2022, around 8:14 p.m., during the response to a rollover vehicle accident on Interstate 90 East Bound near Martin Luther King Boulevard in Bratenahl.

After initially stopping, Bissell drove around the emergency vehicles at the scene and struck Firefighter Tetrick, who was clearing debris. Bissell fled the scene without stopping. Firefighter Tetrick was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

An investigation led by the Bratenahl Police Department, with assistance from the Cleveland Division of Police, located Bissell’s vehicle near East 152nd Street and Ridpath Avenue in Cleveland later that night. Bissell was subsequently arrested.

Bissell was found guilty of Murder, two counts of Felonious Assault, Involuntary Manslaughter, Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, Failure To Stop After Accident, and Failure To Comply.
