Queens Man Charged in Deadly Scooter Shooting Spree

QUEENS, NY – Thomas Abreu, a 25-year-old resident of Elton Street, Brooklyn, was charged in a 14-count indictment on Wednesday.

 Charges include murder and five counts of attempted murder after an alleged scooter-riding shooting spree in Queens that left an 86-year-old man dead and two others injured.

According to the charges, the events unfolded on Thursday, July 8. Around 11:26 a.m., Abreu, seen on video surveillance and witnessed on 108th Street and Jamaica Avenue in Richmond Hill, shot Hamod Saeidi in the back. Mr. Saeidi later died in the hospital.

The indictment further alleges that Abreu, while on his scooter, shot at two pedestrians and shot a minivan driver in the head. Another man was shot in the shoulder by Abreu.

The accused was arrested at 1:00 p.m. on Sutphin Boulevard and Archer Avenue. A loaded pistol with an extended magazine and additional ammunition were found. If convicted, Abreu could face life in prison.
