Linden police help residents with New Jersey's confusing fireworks laws

LINDEN, NJ – The Linden Police Department is attempting to help residents identify legal and illegal fireworks ahead of Fourth of July.

In an effort to ensure public safety, residents aged 16 and above are encouraged to exercise responsible use of legal fireworks. Authorities remind individuals that fireworks that shoot into the air are strictly prohibited.

To further regulate the use of fireworks, the municipal ordinance has imposed several restrictions. The following rules must be adhered to:

  • Fireworks should not be used between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m.
  • A minimum distance of 15 feet from any structure must be maintained while igniting fireworks.
  • Usage of fireworks on any City property, including parks, parking lots, and streets, is strictly prohibited.

The City maintains a zero tolerance policy towards violations of these laws. Individuals found in violation may face penalties including fines of up to $2000, community service, and/or imprisonment. Concerned citizens are encouraged to report any violations to the non-emergency number: (908) 474-8500. It is important to note that emergency services should only be contacted through 9-1-1 in case of genuine emergencies.
