PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MD – The Prince George’s County Police Department has recently announced a new campaign to counter illegal pop-up car events. These spontaneous meetups have resulted in property damage and hazardous conditions for spectators, drivers, and passers-by. They also hinder police enforcement due to massive crowds, with over 150 people regularly in attendance.
On Saturday, around 10:00 p.m., a combined force from the Police Department, Sheriff’s Office, and Maryland State Police dispersed a significant crowd near Marlboro Pike and Forestville Road. Alan Terrell McKenzie, 27, was charged with hit and run, while two underage males face charges for disorderly conduct, reckless endangerment, and knowingly aiming a laser beam at a police helicopter.
The department is now leveraging their Homeland Security Division to review the collected evidence from multiple sources, including officer’s mobile video equipment, nearby surveillance cameras, and the police helicopter. This evidence will be used to identify and charge other participants and inform insurance companies about the vehicles’ involvement in these illegal events.
