BROOKLYN, NY – Weng Sor, a 62-year-old former Las Vegas resident, has been recently arraigned on charges of murder, attempted murder, and assault after allegedly driving a U-Haul truck into 10 people in Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, and Sunset Park on February 13, 2023.
The incident resulted in the death of one individual, 44-year-old father of three YiJie Ye, and left several others severely injured.
Sor allegedly stole the U-Haul truck from a rental facility in Brooklyn and went on a rampage that spanned three neighborhoods. He is believed to have intentionally targeted pedestrians on the sidewalk, hitting several parked cars in the process.
After the spree, Sor abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. He was later apprehended by the NYPD and taken into custody.
The Kings County District Attorney’s Office stated that Sor has been indicted on a total of 22 counts, including one count of second-degree murder, five counts of second-degree attempted murder, eight counts of first-degree assault, and eight counts of second-degree assault.
If convicted, Sor faces up to 25 years to life in prison. The motive behind his actions remains unknown, and authorities are continuing their investigation.
