Jersey man who tried to hire hitman to kill ex-wife, daughter sentenced to prison

MONROE TOWNSHIP, NJ – A New Jersey man convicted of trying to hire a hitman to kill his ex-wife and her daughter will be heading to prison for eight years.

Michael Stewart, 69, of Monroe Township, had previously pleaded guilty to one count of using interstate commerce facilities to commit a murder for hire.

He previously admitted to planning to pay a hitman to murder his ex-wife and her daughter

In October 2021, Stewart met with an undercover agent who he believed to be a hitman and gave him a photo of his ex-wife, names, addresses, and the layout of the victims’ property, and the types of cars used by the victims.

He also provided the agent with $500 as a partial payment.

Stewart’s sentence was imposed by U.S. District Judge Julien Xavier Neals in Newark federal court on May 2, 2023.

In addition to his prison sentence, Stewart was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release.
