UPPER MARLBORO, MD – Gregory Neverson, a 20-year-old from Upper Marlboro, has been charged with illegal possession of a stolen handgun and possession with intent to distribute cannabis in Montgomery County. Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police were conducting a bicycle patrol at the Wheaton Metro Station on March 30, 2023, when they detected the smell of marijuana and observed Neverson smoking in public. Neverson handed over the marijuana cigarette and a bag containing suspected marijuana.
After Neverson consented to a pat-down, officers located a handgun in the right pocket of his jacket. Neverson then resisted arrest and ran away with the handgun toward the rear area of apartments in the 11100 block of Georgia Ave. A concerned resident witnessed Neverson running away and told officers where he was hiding.
Officers searched the area and found Neverson hiding behind a generator beneath two discarded mattresses. Neverson was taken into custody without further incident. A search of the immediate area revealed a Walther PDP 9mm handgun, with a loaded magazine, discarded by Neverson. Detectives discovered that the handgun had been stolen in February 2023 and that Neverson is prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm.
Officers also located a large amount of suspected marijuana inside Neverson’s backpack, which also contained a digital scale believed to measure the drug for resale. Neverson was charged with possession with the intent to distribute Cannabis and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he was also charged with illegal possession of ammunition and stolen firearm-related charges. He is being held without bond.
