Police make arrest in armed home invasion incident in Northeast D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District have made an arrest in connection with an armed robbery and assault with a dangerous weapon that occurred on Tuesday, in the 300 block of Franklin Street, Northeast.

At around 2:45 am, suspects entered the victims’ residence, and one brandished a firearm, leading to a physical altercation between the suspect and the victims. During the altercation, the suspect fired the handgun, striking one of the victims before fleeing the scene with stolen property.

The injured victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Detectives arrested 28-year-old Bernard Vance of Northeast, D.C., following an investigation on Tuesday, March 28, 2023.

Vance has been charged with armed robbery (gun), assault with a dangerous weapon (gun), carrying a pistol without a license, possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device, unlawful possession of a firearm, and felon in possession.

Three firearms were recovered, and the investigation revealed the suspects and victims were known to each other. The case remains under investigation, with a reward of up to $10,000 offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the crime.
