Traffic stop leads to drug bust in Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – Police conducted a traffic stop in Atlantic City and arrested a passenger on multiple drug charges overnight.

After observing a motor vehicle infraction in the 200 block of north South Carolina Avenue, Officer Giselle Garcia conducted a motor vehicle stop.

Officer Jesse Oliver-Logan and his K9 partner Gee were summoned to the scene to assist after officers found probable cause for a search.

Gee, a canine trained to detect narcotics, ultimately indicated that narcotics were present in the vehicle. Semaj Poteat, of Lawrenceville, GA, the passenger of the vehicle, as well as the driver, were both removed for investigative purposes from the vehicle.

A subsequent investigation revealed Poteat had approximately 54 grams of suspected crack cocaine, 6 grams of suspected heroin, and $730 in US currency believed to be proceeds of illegal narcotics sales.

The vehicle driver was issued a motor vehicle summons and sent on his way.

Poteat was taken into custody without incident. The defendant, Semaj Poteat, 22, of Lawrenceville, was arrested and charged with possession of CDS (two counts), possession of CDS with the intent to distribute (two counts), and possession of CDS paraphernalia (two counts).
