ROCKAWAY BEACH, NY – A dead humpback whale has washed up along a jetty at the tip of Breezy Point. The latest whale beaching was previously suspected to be the whale identified in a nearby shipping lane by the U.S. Coast Guard.
The Rockaway Times first reported the incident.
“Another humpback whale has washed up dead on the jetty at the Breezy Point tip,” the Rockaway Times said today. “It appears to be a whale that was spotted floating in the water as early as February 27 just south of Breezy Point.”
Earlier in the day, another whale was spotted off the coast of Seaside Park at the Jersey Shore. With the discovery of the Rockaway Beach whale on Wednesday, it makes the Seaside Park whale less likely to be the one spotted in New Jersey earlier in the day.

The Breezy Point whale makes the total count of whales dead in the New York and New Jersey area 13 since December 1st.
