Driver charged in death of bicyclist last summer in New Lots

NEW YORK, NY – Police in Brooklyn have announced the arrest of 53-year-old Jose Ferrufino of North Baldwin on charges of failing to yield to a bicyclist and failure to exercise due care. Ferrufino struck and killed 43-year-old Jarrod Little on August 30th as he was riding an e-bike in the area of Pennsylvania Avenue and Linden Boulevard.

Little was ejected from the bike and rushed to Brookdale hospital with severe head trauma. He was later pronounced deceased.

After the crash, Ferrufino remained on scene until police arrived and cooperated with their investigation.

On Wednesday, Ferrufino was arrested by officers in the 75th Precinct.

According to a complaint filed by the NYPD, “A preliminary investigation revealed a 2013 Freightliner, operated by a 52-year-old male was stopped at a red light on southbound Pennsylvania Avenue at the intersection of Linden Boulevard.  Once the light turned green the tractor-trailer began to make a right turn, onto westbound Linden Boulevard striking a 43-year-old male who was operating an E-bike with pedals southbound on Pennsylvania Avenue.  The bicyclist was ejected to the ground and sustained head and body trauma.”
