CUMBERLAND, MD – Police in Cumberland responded to a home on Gephart Drive on Thursday after a woman who was being assaulted by male subject called 911 while leaving the phone line open for 911 dispatchers.
Police were notified by dispatch of the ongoing attack and responded to the 800 block of Gephart drive. Upon their arrival, a woman’s screams were heard by responding officers. Police, believing an active assault was in progress, forced entry into the home and observed Michael James McDonald, 48, assaulting the woman.
“Dispatch advised that it was believed an assault was currently in progress in the home. Upon arrival on the scene, officers could hear a female subject in the home screaming for help,” the Cumberland Police Department reported. “Officers were then able to force entry into the home, where they observed a male subject actively assaulting a female victim. When the officers intervened, the male began to actively fight officers and resist arrest.”
McDonald was placed under arrest and transported to Police Headquarters for processing. He was charged with Assault 1st Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, and three charges of Assault on Law Enforcement Officer.
