Police arrest suspect for carjacking, kidnapping in Paterson

PATERSON, NJ – A man wanted for a carjacking and kidnapping incident that took place December 1st, has been arrested.

Juan Montero-Pena, 30, was arrested in relation to a carjacking investigation that took place on December 1, 2022, in the area of Jackson Street and Washington Avenue in Paterson, New Jersey.

Pena is facing charges of carjacking, two counts of kidnapping, robbery, terroristic threats and assault.

The Bloomfield Police Department contacted the Paterson Police Department on December 1 at approximately 10:00 p.m. regarding a possible kidnapping that had occurred earlier in Paterson, New Jersey. Upon investigation by the Paterson Police Department, it was determined that on December 1, 2022, at approximately 8:00 p.m., several men approached a motor vehicle near Jackson Street and Washington Avenue in Paterson, New Jersey.

The suspect threatened a 38-year-old female Paterson resident and a 47-year-old male Central Islip resident and carjacked their vehicle. As a result, the victims were forced to be restrained against their will.

The Bloomfield Police Department located the carjacked vehicle around 9:40 p.m., near Arlington Avenue and Watsessing Avenue in Bloomfield, New Jersey, which was operated by Juan Montero-Pena. Juan Montero-Pena was arrested after Paterson Police determined that he was one of the actors who participated in earlier carjackings and kidnappings. The incident did not result in any serious injuries to either victim.
