OCEAN CITY, MD – A 74-year-old man was beaten and carjacked by a group of teens and one 12-year-old boy on Friday in Ocean City. Police responded initially to a 911 call regarding a possible break-in. Moments later, while en route to the scene, responding officers were advised the incident was a carjacking.

According to police, the man was standing near his car when a group of three males approached him and pointed a gun at him, demanding his belongings. As he was being held up at gunpoint, he was struck in the back of his head with a handgun. The suspects stole the man’s car and his belongings before fleeing the scene.

“Officers quickly located the stolen vehicle at a convenience store in the area of N. Division Street. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled northbound on Philadelphia Avenue with two additional vehicles,” the Ocean City Police Department said Saturday morning. “All three vehicles crossed over the Route 50 bridge leaving the Town of Ocean City. During the pursuit, stop sticks were successfully deployed on one of the vehicles. This vehicle ultimately stopped in the West Ocean City area.”

According to police, the driver, 19-year-old Jaquawn Daney fled on foot. He was quickly captured by Worcester County Sheriff’s deputies.

Officers from surrounding agencies continued following the other two vehicles. Police recovered the carjacked vehicle and arrested the 15-year-old male behind the wheel.

The third car crashed and caught fire in Dorchester County. Three juveniles fled that crash. Police located the handgun used during their search, along with personal items stolen from the victim.
