Woman Struck and Killed by Car in Upstate New York

SCHENECTADY, NY – A woman was struck and killed by a passing vehicle Tuesday night on State Street in Schenectady, according to police.

At approximately 9:30 pm on Tuesday, officers from the Schenectady Police were dispatched to the 1000 block of State St. for a report of a female that was struck by a vehicle.

“Officers arrived on the scene and located a female lying in the street. The female was treated on scene by members of the Schenectady Fire Department and transported to Ellis Hospital via Mohawk Ambulance. Tragically, she was pronounced deceased shortly after 10 pm,” the department said in a statement.

According to police, the vehicle involved remained on the scene and both occupants are cooperating with the investigation and impairment was not a factor.

The Schenectady Police Traffic Division reconstructed the accident and the investigation is ongoing. State St between Swan St and Brandywine Avenue was shut down for a few hours in both directions.

This is an ongoing investigation and there are no further details at this time.
