New York, NY- Six people were injured during a fire in New York City including two who reportedly jumped from a window and fire escape to escape the flames to safety.
The fire broke out shortly after 7 p.m. and an apartment building on 23rd Avenue in Astoria, Queens Tuesday night.
The New York City Fire Department reported four people were rescued from the burning building. One of those rescued was a newborn baby and her mother. When firefighters arrived the newborn baby and her mother were on the fire escape and both were rescued by firefighters.
Five of the six injured people and the fire were treated at local hospitals for their injuries including one man who broke his leg from a two-story fall from a fire escape.
A dog trapped in the building was also rescued by arriving first responders. At this time, an investigation into the cause of the fire is under way.
