LINDEN, NJ – Linden first responders are being credited with performing life-saving services after a man jumped from a second-story window to escape a fire after his home had become fully engulfed in flame.
“Linden Police & Fire units responded to the 800 block of Essex Ave a little after 12:30a.m. this morning on reports of a house fire,” the department said. “Upon arrival Officers found the rear of the residence engulfed in flames. Officers located a 46-year-old man was located laying on the ground outside of the home and immediately began to render aid.”
The man sustained serious injuries after he jumped from a second-story window to escape the blaze, police reported. He was treated on scene and transported to Newark University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A 50-year-old woman was treated for minor injuries and transported to RWJBH Rahway Hospital for further evaluation.
Firefighters from the Linden Fire Department, with assistance from Union County Fire Mutual Aid, battled the 3-alarm fire for approx 90 minutes until it was brought under control.
Residents displaced by the fire were provided assistance by the American Red Cross.
