SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY – Gun violence continues to plague American communities as police in Suffolk County continue their effort to reduce the number of illegal guns on the streets.
This week, Suffolk County Police officers continued to address gun violence and seized three guns during recent arrests.
According to police, a man was recently arrested in a Wheatley Heights parking lot after he was found in possession of approximately 32 grams of oxycodone pills and a loaded, defaced, 9mm handgun. He was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Resisting Arrest.
During a separate incident, a man was pulled over on 12th Street in West Babylon and officers observed a loaded gun magazine in an open glove box. When questioned, the driver admitted to having a weapon in the car and a Springfield XD-99 mm handgun was recovered.
In another incident, first precinct officers also stopped a dirt bike operator who was driving recklessly on Columbo Avenue in Copiague. The rider crashed the dirt bike and attempted to flee but was apprehended and found in possession of a Taurus 9 mm handgun.
