One Killed in Pemberton Crash, Suspect Fled Scene

PEMBERTON, NJ – One person was killed in a two-car crash in Pemberton on Wednesday. The driver of one of the vehicles fled the scene before police arrived, according to Pemberton Police Chief Jay Watters.

The crash took place on North Pemberton Road in the area of the Pemberton Airport.

According to Chief Watters, at approximately 12:00 am, the Pemberton Township Police Department responded to a two-car motor vehicle collision on North Pemberton Rd. The preliminary investigation indicates that one vehicle was traveling eastbound on North Pemberton Rd and collided with a second vehicle that was traveling westbound.

“The collision occurred in the eastbound lane of travel. The driver of the second vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.” police said. “The driver of the other vehicle reportedly left the scene of the crash prior to the officer’s arrival.”

The front seat passenger of that vehicle was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden for treatment and released later in the morning.
