FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ – A police dispatcher in Franklin Township rescued a woman from her vehicle after she veered off the road and into the Delaware-Raritan Canal Thursday night. And he did it over the phone.

Police said 23-year-old Sara Goyal lost control and ended up entrapped in her car inside the canal near Jacques Lane.

Police Dispatcher Ryan Howarth took the call and walked Goyal through the process of using her window break tool to shatter the window as her vehicle began floating down the canal.

She was able to swim from her vehicle to the edge of the canal where officers Brian Quigley, Lauren Gregory, and Kewshawn James pulled her from the edge to safety.
