Pittsburgh Public Works Truck Stolen, Found Crashed by Thief Carry Weed

PITTSBURGH, PA – A Bloomfield man was arrested on drug and auto theft charges after crashing an Allegheny County Public Works vehicle he stole last Friday.

Police said on the morning of July 8; county Public Works employees discovered that a county maintenance work vehicle was missing.

“While the initial officer was on scene taking a report, Pittsburgh Police responded to an accident where a county truck hit a pole in the 4600 block of Baum Boulevard. The driver had fled the scene,” the Allegheny County Police Department said. “Detectives from the Allegheny County Police General Investigations Unit initiated an investigation. Detectives discovered the wrecked 2017 Chevrolet Silverado truck and a Stihl leaf backpack blower had been stolen from county property during the evening hours of July 7.”

Through the investigation, detectives identified Gregory Galvez, 47, of Bloomfield as the primary suspect. On July 12, 2022, county detectives detained Galvez in the Strip District area of the City of Pittsburgh. He was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and marijuana. Galvez was transported to Allegheny County Police headquarters.
