TOMS RIVER, NJ – Inspectors from the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention reported today that a family dog was lost in a structure fire in the East Dover section of the township. The fire was reported shortly after 6:30 pm on Sunday, Father’s Day on Mystic Port Place.
“Firefighters were notified of a possible person still inside of the residence. On arrival firefighters encountered one side of a duplex residential structure well involved in fire,” said Chief Inspector John Novak in a statement. “A second alarm was transmitted that brought in units from Toms River Fire Companies No.1 and No. 2, and Silverton Fire Company. Ocean Beach Fire Company responded to provide coverage for the area.”
It turned out, there were no humans in the fire, but their dog was.
“Firefighters conducted an aggressive interior attack on the fire while conducting a search for the possible occupant. The fire was placed under control within twenty minutes,” Novak said. “Firefighters remained on the scene to conduct overhaul and extinguish small pockets of fire. Thankfully the occupants were not home at the time of the fire.”
There were no other injuries reported.
Fire Inspectors from the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention along with the Toms River Police Department are conducting the investigation.
Chief Inspector Novak said at this time, the fire does not appear to be suspicious.
