Two New Jersey Brothers Drown at Bayonne Community Pool

BAYONNE, NJ – Bayonne police have reported two teenage brothers drowned last night at the Lincoln Community School Pool. The incident happened at around 8:30 pm, when the brothers, 16 and 19, became distressed in the deep end of the pool.

Police officers responded to assist lifeguards with life-saving measures, but they were unable to revive the boys. They were later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The pool, home to the Bayonne swim team, was open for an open public swim session at the time of the double drowning.

One of the teens was a student at the school, and the other was a recent graduate.

“The City of Bayonne is in mourning tonight, as we learn of the passing of two teenage brothers, who drowned this evening at our Lincoln Community School Pool,” Mayor Jimmy Davis said. “I ask that we all respect the privacy of the family as they deal with this unspeakable tragedy. We all pray for comfort for our neighbors,”

The Bayonne Public School District released a letter from Superintendent John J. Niesz who said additional crisis counselors will be on hand for grief counseling for students.
