New York Fire Department Says 'Call us' if You Want to Cool Off with City Hydrant

NEW YORK, NY – The temperatures on Tuesday are going to continue to climb in the city, reaching nearly 100 degrees and the New York City fire department is asking residents not to illegally tap and open city fire hydrants.

Instead, they are asking that you beat the heat by using a legal fire hydrant spray cap to keep cool. The department says to visit your local firehouse with your identification to request a spray cap which can be used safely by children without interrupting the water supply or water pressure in case of an emergency.

You will be asked to fill out a short form and the service is free, safe and legal.
