Phillip Davis' Killer to Spend 7 Years in Prison

ROANOKE, VA – Brandon A. Calderon-Damian, 20 has pleaded no contest to charges of voluntary manslaughter regarding the June 2020 murder of Phillip Davis, police announced on Wednesday.

According to the plea agreement, Calderon-Damian was sentenced to serve a total of 10 years on the charges, three of which are suspended — this results in just a seven-year prison term.

“While this sentencing does not reflect the value of the loss of a life, it is also not indicative of the amount of work that Roanoke Police and the community put into solving this crime,” the Roanoke Police Department said today. “We commend the actions of all RPD personnel who were involved in this case from the beginning. Their quick actions, dedication and hard work identified the person responsible for the crime. Thank you all for the long hours and immense effort you put into solving this homicide investigation.”

On June 27, 2020 right after 3:00 a.m., Roanoke Police were notified of a shots fired call in the 5000 block of Valley View Blvd NW. Responding officers located a juvenile male with a critical gunshot wound. He was transported by Roanoke Fire-EMS to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Davis later died from his wounds.
