Newark firefighters battle two-alarm fire

NEWARK, NJ – Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara reports that Newark Firefighters extinguished a 2-alarm fire at 767 South Orange Avenue today.

Just before 4:40 p.m., firefighters responded to the residence on a call of a fire at a 2 1/2 unit unoccupied building. A 2nd alarm was immediately called, with an adult female jumping from the building’s second floor. The building fully collapsed due to the fire.

The injured victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment and is reportedly in stable condition. No other injuries have been reported.

The fire was considered under control at 5:56 p.m. The cause and origin of this fire is under investigation by the Department of Public Safety’s Arson Unit.
