Delmar crash described as mass casualty incident by fire department

DELMAR, MD – Seven people were involved in a multi-vehicle crash in Delmar, elevating the scene to the level of a ‘mass casualty incident’ by the Delmar Fire Department on Thursday.

The Delmar Fire Department reported the following:

On July 29, Delmar Fire Dept was dispatched for a Motor Vehicle Collision with roll-over and entrapment. Fire Dept personnel arrived on-scene and confirmed entrapment. The incident involved two vehicles and a total of 7 patients. ‘A Level-1 MCI (Mass Casualty Incident) was declared and six additional ambulances were dispatched. ‘Rescue 1 and Tower 16 from Salisbury Fire Dept and Ladder 5 from Hebron Fire Dept also responded. In addition to Delmar’s ambulance, EMS units from Salisbury, Hebron, Mardela Springs, Parsonsburg and Sharptown responded.

The collision occurred at Bi-State Blvd and Foskey Lane on the Maryland side. The intersection was closed to traffic during the incident. Maryland State Police and Maryland Dept of Natural Resources Police were also on the scene assisting. 7 patients were transported in 4 ambulances. Sharptown and Parsonsburg ambulances were canceled prior to arrival at the scene but remained available to cover calls.
