TOKYO, JAPAN – It’s starting to look like Japan wants to use the Tokyo Olympics to showcase its technological superiority to the entire world. First, it was a fleet of 1,800 drones performing an amazingly choreographed opening ceremony. Now it’s basketball shooting robots nailing free throws, three-pointers, and half-court shots.
The Tokyo Olympics are bragging about their new robot on their Olympics news website today.
“France beating Team USA in Olympic basketball wasn’t the only major talking point to emerge from the game. While unexpected in its result, nothing could have prepared spectators for what happened at the half way point: a free throwing robot. Terrifyingly life-like in height, the robot rolled out at half-time to treat onlookers to some free throws,” the Olympic committee reported.
