SUFFERN, NY – A homeless man living under a New York State Thruway overpass near Orange Street was stabbed and robbed of his boots police report.

On Saturday, July 3rd, the Suffern Police patrol and detective divisions investigated a report of a robbery and serious assault that occurred in the area of the NYS Thruway overpass on Orange Avenue.

A male party entered our station and reported that he was assaulted with a knife and had his boots taken by a second male party. The victim had a serious laceration to his hand and was treated at the police station by the Ramapo Valley Ambulance Corps and Rockland Paramedic Services, prior to being transported to Nyack Hospital. A subsequent investigation revealed the victim and suspect were both undomiciled parties and were in the wooded area described above.

The suspect allegedly used a knife to severely cut the victim’s hand and subsequently kicked and punched the victim repeatedly before forcibly removing his boots. Within an hour and a half of the initial report, officers identified, located and arrested the suspect, who was subsequently charged with robbery, menacing, assault with a weapon, grand larceny and criminal possession of a weapon. The suspect was arraigned in the Suffern Justice Court and remanded to Rockland County Jail on $5,000 bail.
