Fort Lauderdale police continue investigation of transient found murdered on E. Sunrise

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – On June 20th at approximately 12:00 a.m., the Fort Lauderdale Police Department received a 9-1-1 call regarding a shooting in the 600 block of East Sunrise Boulevard in the City of Fort Lauderdale. When officers arrived on scene, they discovered an adult male lying in the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds.

The injured male was transported to Broward Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified as JosephDarrigo, 5/21/90. Darrigo is a transient resident of the City of Fort Lauderdale and is known for his clever panhandling signs.

Darrigo recently relocated to the area from the State of New York to seek treatment for substance abuse. Darrigo’s family describes him as a caring son and brother and are hoping someone in the community has information to lead detectives to the person responsible for killing their family member.
