Jackson Township man involved in Jersey City street fight caught fleeing hospital

JERSEY CITY, NJ – A Jackson charged with aggravated assault and obstruction of law after being involved in a Jersey City street fight is now facing more charges after police say he fled the hospital where he was being treated prior to his arrest.   While being treated at Hoboken University Medical Center for his own injuries, police say Jared Mullin, 22, of Jackson attempted an escape.  He’s now facing charges of assault on a law enforcement officer and escape.

On Sunday, around 10 pm, Jersey City Police Officer Francis McCourt arrived in the area of 70 Hudson Street and was alerted to an injured person on the ground.  When he arrived the injured victim was standing on his own but police say he was dazed, had a large contusion on his head and unsteady on his feet.  After speaking to witnesses, Officer McCourt identified Mullin as the suspect and he was placed under arrest for aggravated assault.

Mullin was transported to HUMC for treatment of his injuries and remained under police guard.

While being treated, he tried to escape and with the assistance of hospital staff and Police Officer Daniel Grossi, Mullin was re-secured in his hospital bed.  In his attempt to flee, police say he assaulted Officer Grossi. He was placed in the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
