COLUMBUS, OH – On January 13th, the Columbus Police Department reported the 13th murder in the city of the new year. That means each day of 2021 somebody in Columbus was shot and killed, except, in this case, the murder may be justifiable homicide. That’s because Kiran Hill picked the wrong person to rob with a gun.
On Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at 7:24 pm, Columbus Police officers were called to the E & E Market, located at 778 E. Hudson St., on a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found 18-year-old Kiran Hill suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Hill was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced deceased at 7:48pm. The investigation revealed that 17-year-old Josiah Cocroft and Hill attempted to rob the unnamed victim.
During the robbery, Hill brandished a firearm. The unnamed victim, who is a CCW permit holder, produced his own handgun. Hill was then fatally wounded during an exchange of gunfire with the unnamed victim. Following the altercation, the unnamed victim remained at scene & waited for officers to arrive.
